On May 16th, a dozen members of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Laboratory Equipment Division from Newington, NH reported to Albacore Park for the United Way of the Greater Seacoast's Spring Day of Caring. The group, headed by Joe Stocker, came prepared to put in a full day of work. Park Executive Director John Maier and Albacore COB Norm Bower had drawn up an ambitious "wish list" of work to be done.
Following a tour of the boat by COB Bower, the volunteers turned to and began chipping away at the "wish list."
One of the first items to be tackled was to repair the ruts in the grassy divider in the parking lot.
Another item was a general raking of the grounds to clean up debris from the winter. An herbicide was applied to sections of the Park grounds.
The boat and propellers were given a fresh water scrubdown to remove bird droppings.
Trash along the Route 1 By-Pass was picked up and brush around the fire hydrant was cut down. A small dead birch tree near the Visitor's Center was removed.
Everyone enjoyed a Moes submarine sandwich and bottled water for lunch. At the end of the day, each member of the team was given an Albacore memento as a reminder of the productive day they spent at the Park. Our thanks go Chuck Beaulier, Mark Day, Randy Dickinson, Mike Duran, Ken Hall, Pat Horan, Nathan Lang, Joe Navelski, Scott Pratt, Erica Schloesser, Joe Stocker and Aarum Todd for their hard days work.
